KING'S WOMEN ROUTE WILKES TO IMPROVE TO 17-0
   
WILKES-BARRE  --  Nikki Kingston, Tiffini Varrasse, and Jen Wozniak each scored 12 points to lead the visiting King's College women's basketball team to a 79-51 route of Wilkes University Wednesday in the Marts Center.
   
King's, which is ranked third nationally in NCAA Division III, extended its school-record winning streak to 17-0 while improving to 7-0 in MAC Freedom Conference action.  Wilkes fell to 7-10 overall and 1-6 in league play. The Lady Monarchs also enabled King's to take a 7-1 lead over Wilkes in the Times Leader Mayor's Cup
   
In the first half, King's jumped out to a 11-6 lead on a pair of buckets by Kingston and baskets by Varrasse and Carissa Ryan.  The Lady Monarchs extended the lead to 20-10 with 11:47  left in the half on consecutive baskets by Jen Wozniak and a three-pointer by Katie Bowes. After Wilkes cut the lead to 20-15, the Lady Monarchs exploded for an 18-0 run on a jumper by Katie Lala, two baskets by Jennie Orelli, and a Wozniak layup which gave King's a 38-15 advantage with 5:25 left in the half.     

After a Wilkes basket, the Lady Monarchs closed out the opening stanza with a 8-4 run to take a comfortable 46-21 lead into the break.  Kingston led the Lady Monarchs with 10 first half points while Varrasse added nine and Wozniak chipped in with eight.
   
In the second half, opened with a 14-5 run on two baskets by Wozniak, a three-pointer by Varrasse, and a jumper by April Tanner.  Fran Monte added a pair of foul shots as the Lady Monarch lead swelled to 60-28 with 13:42 left in the contest allowing King's coach Bryan Whitten to clear the bench and utilize the entire roster.
   
Kingston added tem highs of five assists and four steals while Orelli and Cathy Monte finished with eight points. Tanner chipped in with seven points as 13 different Lady Monarch players reached the scoring column.
   
Whitney Bull led Wilkes with 27 points and 16 rebounds, while canning 15-of-21 shots from the foul line. Katy Doherty added nine.
   
King's returns to action Saturday when the Lady Monarchs host DeSales University at 2:00 p.m. in a rematch of the 2001 MAC Freedom championship won by the Lady Monarchs in double-overtime.
