KINGS WOMEN REMAIN UNBEATEN WITH  DELAWARE VALLEY
(Await Saturday Showdown with arch-rival Scranton)
   
WILKES-BARRE ­ Fran Monte scored a team-high 19 points while Jen Wozniak and Tiffini Varrasse added 16 each to power the King's College women's basketball team to a 86-68 MAC Freedom Conference win over visiting Delaware Valley Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
   
With the win, King's improved to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in MAC Freedom Conference action.  The Aggies fell to 7-6 and 1-2. The Lady Monarchs are ranked fourth nationally in the latest d3hoops.con and WBCA Division III national polls.

King's trailed 25-22 with 846 remaining in the first half when the Lady Monarchs closed with a 18-9 run thanks to nine points by Wozniak and four points from Monte to take a 40-34 lead into the half-time break.
   
In the second half, King's jumped out quickly as Varrasse canned two shots and Monte added a short jumper to give the Lady Monarchs a 46-34 lead.  The Aggies would close to 60-51 on a basket by Melissa Martinez with 9:42 remaining, but King's countered with a 13-2 run to build a comfortable 73-53 advantage with 6:35 left in the contest.  The Aggies would go on a 14-1 run of their own to come to within 74-67 with 2:05 remaining and were then forced to foul. But the Lady Monarchs would calmly convert all 10 of its foul shots over the final two minutes to seal the victory.
   
Kristin Yeasted and Jennie Orelli added eight points each for the Lady Monarchs while Nikki Kingston and Katie Bowes chipped in with six each.  Wozniak pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while Monte added eight.
   
King's also held a dominating 48-32 rebounds and limited the Aggies to just two offensive rebounds the entire contest.
   
Delaware valley was led by Kristen Henry with 23 points while Amber Smolinsky and Lauren Snyder chipped in with 16 and 13 points respectively.
   
King's will next face its long-awaited showdown with arch-rival Scranton (11-2) after the Lady Royals hammered FDU-Madison 84-58 on Wednesday.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in Scranton's John Long Center.
