KING’S WOMEN WIN PRESTIGIOUS MARYMOUNT TIP-OFF CLASSIC

ARLINGTON, VA – The King’s College women’s basketball team battled back from a 10-point second-half deficit to post a 60-56 victory over host Marymount University in the prestigious eight-team Marymount Tip-Off Classic in Arlington, Va.

The Lady Monarchs trailed 54-44 with 8:46 remaining but utilized a tenacious defense and took advantage of poor foul shooting by the host school to hold the Saints to just two points the remainder of the game. Marymount made just 1-of-8 foul shots over the game’s final eight minutes to aid the Lady Monarch comeback effort.

King’s took a 58-56 lead on a three-point bucket by tournament most valuable player Jennie Orelli with 1:42 remaining as the Lady Monarchs improved to 3-0 on the year. Fran Monte added 10 points and nine rebounds to gain a spot on the all-tournament team while Nikki Kingston was also outstanding with nine points and eight rebounds. Tiffini Varrasse scored points while Jen Wozniak chipped in with seven points off the bench.

As it did all three games of the tournament, King’s received outstanding bench play as the King’s reserves scored 27 of the team’s 60 points. Ten different Lady Monarch player reached the scoring column for the second consecutive night.

Gen Schmitt led Marymount (2-1) with 12 points while Candice Brown added 11.
