LADY MONARCHS FALL TO LAVERNE, 82-54

WILKES-BARRE -- Marissa Raya scored 30 points to lead the University of LaVerne (Ca.) to a 82-54 victory over King's College on the final day of the Caribbean Showdown Friday in Cancun, Mexico. 

With the win LaVerne, a 2007 NCAA Division III national tournament qualifier, improved to 6-2 on the year. King's, meanwhile, lost its fourth straight game while falling to 5-6.

King's fell behind 39-13 at the half as the Lady Monarchs shot poorly, converting just 21.4 (6-28) percent of its field goal attempts. LaVerne, had no such problem in shooting 51.6 (16-31) from the floor, paced by Raya's 16 points in the opening stanza.

King's shots would begin to fall in the second half as the Lady Monarchs made 51.6 (16-31) percent of their attempts during the final 20 minutes but it was too little too late as LaVerne outscored King's 43-41 over the final stanza to post the victory.

Jenna Palumbo led King's with 1 points, including four three-pointers while Lauren Kendra followed with 13 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Kaitlyn Malshefski added 10 points and five rebounds while Kaitlyn Fiorino chipped in with five points and two assists.

For LaVerne, Raya made 13 of 21 shots, including four three-pointers. Ashley Hall had 14 points while Trenecca Jones added 10 points and 14 rebounds. Lindsay Shiomi chipped in with four points and 13 assists.
