KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TRAVELING TO MEXICO FOR CARIBBEAN HOOPS SHOWDOWN

CANCUN, MEXICO -- The King's College women's basketball team will return to action on Thursday when the Lady Monarchs take their injury-riddled squad to Cancun, Mexico to compete in the Caribbean Hoops Showdown.

King's will limp into the event with a 5-4 record after suffering a number of critical injuries that have greatly contributed to the team losing three of their last five games, including two straight contests.

Things will get no easier for the Lady Monarchs when they open the event by facing defending NCAA Division III National Champion DePauw University Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Central Standard Time.

King's will then face 2007 NCAA Division III national qualifier La Verne University on Friday at 5:00 p.m. CST.

The Lady Monarchs will be paced by junior guard Kaitlyn Fiorino who is averaging a  team-high 18.2 points and 5.4 rebounds while cashing in on 25 three-pointers.  Senior guard Jenna Palumbo follows with 14.4 points and 3.3 rebounds while knocking down  31 three-pointers.

Sophomore guard-forward Jessica Paettie has come off the bench to add 8.7 points and 2.1 rebounds with 17 three-pointers.  Senior point-guard Lauren Kendra has tallied 4.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 2.7 steals each contest  Sophomore power forward Kaitlyn Malshefski chips in with 4.1 points and 3.8 boards.

King's will once again play without the services of second-team pre-season all-American center Andrea Hochstuhl who has missed five straight games and half of another with a broken hand that required surgery, along with a knee injury suffered in the pre-season that limited her to 8.8 points and 7.8 rebounds prior to the hand injury.

Sophomore power forward Krystina Durako had been averaging 8.3 points and 6.3 rebounds while 6-foot freshman center forward Sarah O'Doherty tallied 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds as a top post player off the bench.  The absence of the inside trio leaves Malshefski as the lone post player on King's roster.
