KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS HOME DEBUT WITH
69-50 WIN OVER RUTGERS-CAMDEN
WILKES-BARRE -- Jenna Palumbo scored a
game-high 16 points to lead the King's College women's basketball team
to a 69-50 victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden University Sunday in
Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 3-1 on the year while the
Scarlet-Raptors slipped to 2-2.
The game was a homecoming of sorts for Rutgers-Camden first-year head
coach Kate Bowes who graduated from King's in 2003 after a four-year
career with the Lady Monarchs.
King's would jump out to a quick 8-0 lead and led for most of the first
half until Rutgers-Camden fought back to take a brief 23-21 lead with
3:37 left in the opening stanza on a pair of foul shots by Carmen Oyola.
But Kaitlyn Fiorino responded with a three-pointer as the Lady Monarchs
closed out the half with a 13-5 spurt to take a 34-28 lead into the
locker room.
King's would begin to pull away in the second half when a bucket by
Krystina Durako and a pair of foul shots from Jessica Paettie gave the
lady Monarchs a 48-34 lead with 12:44 remaining.
The Scarlet Raptors would close to within 51-45 with 5:57 left on a
basket by Imani Hafiz, but King's used a three-pointer from Fiorino and
two foul shots each from Palumbo and Paettie to extend the lead to 60-46
with 4:09 left in the contest.
Palumbo was 5-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-11 from three-point
range. Fiorino added14 points, five rebounds, and three assists while
Paettie finished with 10 points. Durako contributed with nine points and
six boards while Lauren Kendra chipped in with six points and six
rebounds.
Rutgers-Camden was paced by Amber Parker with 15 points while Hafiz
followed with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Oyola chipped in with 3 points
and six boards.
Following its matchup with Rutgers-Camden, King's travel to Upper
Montclair, NJ to face Montclair State University Thursday, November 29,
at 6:00 p.m.
