KING'S WOMEN FALL TO FDU-FLORHAM IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's basketball team shot just 25.9 percent for the game and went without a field goal for the final 5:21 of the contest as visiting FDU-Florham posted a 56-47 upset victory in the semi-finals of the Freedom Conference Tournament Wednesday in Scandlon Gym.

With the loss, second-seeded King's sees its season end at 14-12 while third-seeded FDU improved to 17-9 and advances to the conference title game Saturday at DeSales.

King's struggled mightily in the first half, making just 8-of-30 shots as FDU took a 27-23 lead into the break.

The Lady Monarchs bounced back in the second half and would eventually build a 28-29 lead with 15:28 left in the contest on a pair of foul shots by Kaitlyn Fiorino.  The Devils battled back and took a 42-41 lead with 7:19 left on a bucket by Emily Cerankowski. King's would recapture the lead at 45-42 with 5:21 left on back-to-back baskets by Kaitlyn Malshefski and Fiorino.

But King's shooting would go cold and the Lady Monarchs not not convert a field goal for the rest of the game. To compound matters, standout senior point-guard Lauren Kendra fouled out of the game with 2:07 left with the score tied 47-47. FDU would take advantage of three costly King's turnovers and used four points from Cerankowski and a three-point play by Danielle Michlovsky to end the game with a 9-0 run.

The Lady Monarchs, who shot just 25.0 (6-24) percent from the field in the second half, finished the game making just 14-of-54 shots from the floor.

Fiorino, King's leading scorer at 17.0 points per-game, topped the Lady Monarchs with 16 points, but was just3-of-16 from the field. Jenna Palumbo, the squad's second leading scorer at 12 points per-game, tallied just three points and was 0-10 from the field. Malshefski added 113 points; Lauren Kendra tallied six points and 11 rebounds, while Andrea Hochstuhl contributed four points and 15 rebounds.

Michlovsky paced FDU with 24 points while Courtney Young and Cerankowski added 15 and 12 points respectively.
