KING'S WOMEN'S FALL TO DESALES, 69-60

CENTER VALLEY -- LeighAnn Burke scored a game-high 24 points and host DeSales University made a 10-point half-time lead stand up as the Bulldogs defeated visiting King's College in a Freedom Conference matchup Wednesday in Center Valley.
With the win, DeSales improved to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in league play. King's, meanwhile slipped to 8-9 and 2-2.
After DeSales built a 39-29 halftime lead, King's used a 9-3 run early in the second stanza and cut the lead to 42-38 with 16:52 remaining thanks to five points from Jenna Palumbo and baskets down low from Kaitlyn Malshefski and Andrea Hochstuhl. DeSales, however, countered with a 6-0 spurt to tale a 48-38 lead with 14:07 on the clock.
The Bulldogs would continue to control the pace and took its biggest lead of the game at 61-45 on a bucket by Burke with 6:09 left.
The Lady Monarchs would attempt to rally and cut the lead to 61-51 on a three-pointer form Kristen Baumes and a lay-up from Hochstuhl with 3:14 on the clock.
King's would then begin to foul in an attempt to get back in the game but the Bulldogs iced the game by hitting 8-of-8 charity tosses down the stretch to walk away with the victory.
DeSales was outstanding from the foul line all game, making 18-of-20 attempts while the Lady Monarchs went to the foul line just six times, making four shots.
Kaitlyn Fiorino led King's with 13 points and four rebounds while Jenna Palumbo followed with 12 points. Kristen Baumes added nine points while Lauren Kendra tallied six points, six assists, five steals, and four rebounds. Andrea Hochstuhl chipped in with six points and eight rebounds
King's will return to action with a rare Saturday night game when the Lady Monarchs host Arcadia University at 6:00 p.m. in the front-end of a women's-men's doubleheader in Scandlon Gym.
