SALISBURY SLIPS BY NORWICH IN LADY MONARCH CLASSIC OPENER
WILKES-BARRE -- Salisbury University used a balance attack with four players scoring in double figures to post a 68-52 victory over Norwich University in the opening round of the Lady Monarch Classic Friday night.With the win, Salisbury improves to 4-6 and will meet the winner of game two in the championship of the Lady Monarch Classic, while Norwich slips to 1-8 and will play the loser in the consolation game on Saturday afternoon.
Monica Merkel led Salisbury with 14 points and six rebounds. Lindsay Martin added 13 points, Shaniece Roseborough chipped in with 12 points, and Marissa Manzo contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Ally Daniels and Natalie Marchese led Norwich with 13 points each. Laural McWilliams was the only other play in double figures for the Cadets with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Salisbury shot 42.2 (27-64) percent from the floor while hitting on 81.3 (13-16) percent from the foul line. Norwich was held to 30.4 (17-56) percent from the floor and shot 65.0 (13-20) percent from the foul line.
