Brian Donoghue
Head Women's Basketball Coach (3rd Year)
570-208-5900, ext. 5432
Email:  briandonoghue@kings.edu

On August 30, 2005, Brian Donoghue was introduced as the new head women's basketball coach at King's College. In the process, he became just the fifth coach in King's women's basketball history since the program began in 1974-75.

Donoghue came to King's after serving three seasons as the lead assistant coach at Division II East Stroudsburg University. In his first two season at King's, he has guided the Lady Monarchs to a combined 34-22 record and two straight Freedom Conference Tournament berths, including a second-place finish in 2006-07 when the team concluded the year with a 21-9 mark.

Donoghue graduated from Drexel University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering. Upon graduation, he was employed as a civil engineer where he designed highways for two firms that were contracted through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Penn DOT). While attending Drexel, Donoghue served as an assistant boy's coach at his alma-mater, Haverford High School, before moving to the assistant boy's coach at Interboro High School from 1994-95.

In July of 1995, a 22-year old Donoghue received his first head coaching opportunity when he took over a struggling program at Penn State Delaware County. As a part-time head coach without an opportunity to recruit during his first-year at the two-year college, Donoghue suffered through a 1-14 record in his first season. He would slowly build up the program, however, and led the team to four straight Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference playoff berths from the 1998-99 season through 2001-02.

Donoghue guided his 1998-99 team to an 18-5 record and the CCAC championship while earning conference "Coach of the Year" honors. The following year, the team finished 17-6 and was second in the CCAC Tournament. In his final two years, the team suffered through an injury-riddled 8-13 mark in 2000-01, before improving to 14-11 with a CCAC playoff berth in what would eventually be his final season at Penn State Delaware County.

Donoghue, however, decided to give up a career in engineering to pursue a full-time collegiate coaching job. He was presented with that opportunity when East Stroudsburg University hired Donoghue as its lead assistant coach in October of 2002.  While at ESU, Donoghue served as the program's Recruiting and Defensive Coordinators. His responsibilities also included perimeter and post-player development, scouting, game-plan preparation, game scheduling, and monitoring the team's academic progress.

Donoghue is a 1989 graduate of Haverford High School where he was a three-sport varsity letterman, competing in basketball, football, and baseball. He is a member of the WBCA.

Donoghue and his wife Andrea, a certified athletic trainer, reside in nearby Kingston. The couple are expecting their first child in March.

Bill Barrett

Assistant Women's Basketball Coach (2nd Year)

Entering his third season on the King's College staff is assistant coach Bill Barrett.

Coach Barrett came to King's after serving as the assistant women's basketball coach at Keystone College from 2000-2005 where he played a role in helping the Lady Giants make the transition from a junior college program to an NCAA Division III member. He also served as interim head coach for a portion of the 2003 campaign.

In 2004-05, Barrett helped Keystone to a
21-6 record and the regular season championship of the Division III North Eastern Athletic Conference.

He also served as a freshman boy's coach at Mid-Valley High School from 1996-to-1998, before moving to work as the assistant varsity girl's coach at Mid-Valley from 1998-to-2000, before moving on to Keystone.

Barrett was a scholastic standout at Dunmore High School where he was a three-time all-conference selection and a two-time all-regional choice. He then played two years of collegiate basketball at Lackawanna College where he won the division most valuable player award in his second season in 1974.

Maryellen Onofre
Assistant Women's Basketball Coach (1st Year)

Joining the King's College staff in 2007-08 is assistant coach Maryellen Onofre.

Onofre comes to King's fresh off completing an outstanding collegiate career at Division II East Stroudsburg University  where she was a four-year starter at guard. She played a major role in a rebuilding period at ESU that resulted in a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East championships in 2006 and 2007. As a senior, Onofre led the Warriors to a school record tying 25 wins.

She concluded her career at ESU seventh on the all-time scoring list with 1,179 points, while setting school records in single-game three-pointers (8), single-season three-pointers (63), career three-pointers (184), single-season three-point percentage (44.4), and career three-point percentage (37.4).

An outstanding student in her English Secondary Education major, Onofre is a member of the International English Honor Society - Sigma Tau Delta and served as President of the Student Athletic Advisory Council at ESU.

Onofre is a 2003 graduate of Athens Area High School where she was Pennsylvania second-team all-state selection as a senior. She led Athens to a pair of District IV titles and three Northern Tier League championships. She was a three-time Northern Tier League all-star selection and was a two-time Northern Tier East Most Valuable Player.
