KING, MALSHEFSKI HONORED BY MAC

WILKES-BARRE -- King's College athletic standouts Grace King (Bryn Athyn/Academy of the New Church) and Kaitlyn Malshefski (Nanticoke/Nanticoke Area) have been honored by the Middle Atlantic Conferences office.

King was named the Freedom Conference Field Hockey "Defensive Player of the Week" while Malshefski was selected the Freedom Conference Women's Volleyball "Player of the Week".

King helped King’s field hockey team, to a 1-1 week, including a 1-0 shutout of FDU-Florham in a battle of the lone remaining unbeaten teams in the Freedom Conference as King’s clinched the top seed. In a 1-0 overtime loss at Scranton, King helped the Lady Monarchs keep Scranton off the board until the winning tally was scored seven minutes into the extra session. In King’s 1-0 win over FDU, she led a strong defensive effort as King's registered a shutout after limiting the Devils to just five shots the entire game.

The win also helped King's secure the top seed and home field advantage throughout the Freedom Conference playoffs which begin Wednesday. King's will open up the playoffs with a 3:00 p.m. home contest against fourth-seeded DeSales at Betzler Fields.

Malshefski, meanwhile, led King’s volleyball team to a 3-0 week in which the team clinched the fourth seed for the Freedom Conference playoffs. In 10 games, she tallied 39 kills, averaging 3.9 kills per-game while hitting .439 for the week. She also chipped in with 22 digs, eight service aces, and six assists. Her best effort of the week came against New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament qualifier William Paterson where she led King’s a 3-1 win with 18 kills, six digs. five assists, and four aces.

King's opens the Freedom Conference playoffs Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. match at top-seeded DeSales in Center Valley
