KING, MALSHEFSKI HONORED BY MAC
WILKES-BARRE -- King's College athletic standouts
Grace King (Bryn Athyn/Academy of the New Church) and Kaitlyn
Malshefski (Nanticoke/Nanticoke Area) have been honored by
the Middle Atlantic Conferences office.
King was named the Freedom
Conference Field Hockey "Defensive Player of the Week" while Malshefski
was selected the Freedom Conference Women's Volleyball "Player of the
Week".
King
helped King’s field hockey team, to a 1-1 week, including a 1-0 shutout
of FDU-Florham in a battle of the lone remaining unbeaten teams in the
Freedom Conference as King’s clinched the top seed. In a 1-0 overtime
loss at Scranton, King helped the Lady Monarchs keep Scranton off the
board until the winning tally was scored seven minutes into the extra
session. In King’s 1-0 win over FDU, she led a strong defensive effort
as King's registered a shutout after limiting the Devils to just five
shots the entire game.
The win also helped King's secure the top seed and home field advantage
throughout the Freedom Conference playoffs which begin Wednesday. King's
will open up the playoffs with a 3:00 p.m. home contest against
fourth-seeded DeSales at Betzler Fields.
Malshefski,
meanwhile, led King’s volleyball team to a 3-0 week in which the team
clinched the fourth seed for the Freedom Conference playoffs. In 10
games, she tallied 39 kills, averaging 3.9 kills per-game while hitting
.439 for the week. She also chipped in with 22 digs, eight service aces,
and six assists. Her best effort of the week came against New Jersey
Athletic Conference Tournament qualifier William Paterson where she led
King’s a 3-1 win with 18 kills, six digs. five assists, and four aces.
King's opens the Freedom Conference playoffs Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m.
