KING'S FIELD HOCKEY, MEN'S SOCCER , VOLLEYBALL TEAMS TO OPEN CONFERENCE TOURNEY PLAY WEDNESDAY

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey, men's soccer, and women's volleyball team will all begin their quests for trip to the Division III national tournament when Freedom Conference Tournament play begins on Wednesday.

The Lady Monarch field hockey team will look to defend its conference championship as King's earned the top-seed for the event with a 13-4 record and a perfect 6-0 mark in the Freedom Conference after a 1-0 victory over FDU-Florham on Sunday. The Lady Monarchs will host fourth-seeded DeSales University Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields. The teams played earlier in the year at DeSales with King's posting a 1-0 victory. Should King's emerge victorious, its will host the Freedom Conference title game for the third straight Saturday at a time to be announced.

The men's soccer team has earned the program's first post-season conference playoff berth since the 2001 season after posting a 2-1 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday. The Monarchs, who overcame an 0-4 start to finish with an 8-8-1 overall record as well as a 4-2 mark in the Freedom Conference, are seeded third in the tournament and will travel cross-town to face Wilkes University at Ralston Field Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The teams played earlier this year at Ralston Field as Wilkes came away with a narrow 2-1 win.

The volleyball team will be the fourth-seed in the tournament and is 21-13 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Lady Monarchs will travel to Center Valley near Allentown to play top-seeded DeSales Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Monarchs have won six of their last seven matches heading into the post-season. King's played at DeSales back on September 12 and dropped a 3-0 decision by scores of 30-21, 30-20, 30-27.

$4.00 for senior citizens
