KING'S COUSART, KENDRA NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE DISTRICT 2 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

WILKES-BARRE -- Over the course of their careers, King's College senior basketball standouts Jamie Cousart (Holland/Holy Ghost Prep) and Lauren Kendra (Bellmawr, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) have been recognized for their accomplishments on the court. The duo has now been honored for their work in the classroom as both Cousart and Kendra have been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine District II All-Academic Team in men's and women's basketball, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be nominated, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.20 overall grade-point average and be at least a sophomore in class standing. Both Cousart and Kendra were named to the second team, ranking them among the top 10 male and female basketball playing student athletes in District 2, which comprises Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, and Washington D.C.

Cousart is a two-time second-team All-District II selection, having received the honor a year ago. The Monarch senior point-guard owns a 3.41 cumulative grade-point average as a business administration major. A Dean's List student at King's, Cousart is a three-time MAC All-Academic selection who has served as a peer tutor at King's.

On the court, he is a two-time first-team All-Freedom Conference selection and a 2007 Mid-Atlantic All-Regional choice. Cousart, who has helped lead King's to Freedom Conference championships in 2005 and 2007, was named the most valuable player of the Freedom Conference Tournament in 2007. Currently, he leads King's with 14.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. Over the course of his career, Cousart has compiled 1,236 points, 595 rebounds, and 418 assists.

Kendra, meanwhile, was a first-time selection to the District II team. The Lady Monarch senior point-guard has enjoyed an outstanding academic career at King's, posting a 3.91 overall grade-point average and has earned Dean's List honors every semester. A biology major with a minor in neuroscience, Kendra completed a highly-regarded summer internship at the University of Texas Medical Branch, performing research of the regeneration of the human liver in the pharmacology and toxicology labs.

A member of King's Neuroscience Club, she is the vice president of Delta Epsilon Sigma, while holding membership in Alpha Epsilon Delta and the Aquinas Honor Society. On the court, Kendra currently averages 6.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 2.5 steals per-game. In her career, Kendra has tallied 518 points, 623 rebounds, and 265 steals. Her 460 assists stands as King's school career record.
