KING'S COUSART NAMED MAC FREEDOM PLAYER OF THE WEEK, FIORINO NAMED TO
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
WILKES-BARRE -- King's College basketball standout Jamie Cousart has
been named the MAC Freedom Conference Player of the Week, the MAC Office
announced Monday. Additionally, King’s women’s basketball sophomore
Kaitlyn Fiorino was named to the MAC Weekly Honor Roll.
A 6-3 junior point-guard, Cousart led King’s to a 3-1 mark during the
break with King’s only loss coming by a 91-87 verdict to 2005 and 2006
NCAA qualifier York College. Cousart averaged 17.5 points, 6.8
rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per-game.
He netted 24 points with 12 rebounds in a 81-73 win over Misericordia in
the Ramada Inn Monarch Classic, then added 11 points, three rebounds,
and two assists in a 76-50 victory over Ursinus. Cousart then scored 17
points with five rebounds and five assists against York, then followed
up with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a
74-60 upset over Kean (9-4) University. During the week, Cousart shot
45.2 percent from the floor and 78.4 percent from the foul line.
Cousart and his Monarch teammates will return to the court Wednesday
when King's hosts cross-town rival Wilkes at 8:00 p.m. in Scandlon
Gymnasium.
Fiorino led King’s to the team championship of the Lady Monarch Classic
where she was named the tournament most valuable player. In a 89-42
route of Arcadia, Fiorino scored 21 points with four assists and three
rebounds in just 21 minutes of action. In the game, she shot 7-of-12
from the field and tied a King’s single game record with six
three-pointers, connecting on 6-of-9 long-range attempts. In a 78-56
upset of an 8-3 Salisbury squad, Fiorino netted 22 points with four
rebounds and two steals. She shot 8-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7
from three-point range.
For the week, she averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and
1.5 steals. Fiorino shot 62.5 (15-24) percent from the field and 62.5
(10-16) percent from three-point range.
The Lady Monarchs will host Wilkes Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Scandlon
Gym.
