KING'S PLACES A RECORD 65 ON MAC FALL SPORTS ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS

WILKES-BARRE -- A record total of 65 King's College student-athletes have been named to the 2005 Middle Atlantic Conference Fall All-Academic team, the MAC office announced Tuesday.

To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in class standing and own a minimum 3.20 overall grade-point average. The 65 student-athletes chosen at King's stands as the single-highest total ever for college's the fall sports teams, besting the previous best mark of 51 set in 2004.

King’s led the MAC in total selections while Messiah was second with 59 student-athletes on the list. Scranton was third with 55 selections, followed by Susquehanna (54), Moravian (52), Elizabethtown (48), Wilkes (47), FDU-Florham (43), Juniata (42), Albright (41), Widener (38), Lycoming (33), Lebanon Valley (32), Drew (28), DeSales (27), and Delaware Valley (18).

The King's field hockey and men's soccer teams paved the way with 12 and 11 selections respectively.

The field hockey squad was represented by Alicia Barrios, Kelly Bowes, Melissa Gates, Jen Gimble, Amanda Jez, Grace King, Sarah McGrady, Kerri Poltersdorf, Sarah Rizzo, Lindsay Sabo, Suzanne Thompson, and Debbie Wychock.

Men's soccer players selected include Dan Gibbons, J.T. Glenn, John McNichol, Jordan Miller, Matt McGarry, Jim McMichael, Eric Schmeider, Mark Nessle, Brandon Stanchock, Sean Wooster, and Dan Upton.

King's football, women's soccer and women's tennis teams each followed with 10 players chosen.

Monarch football team members include Chris Barnic, Peter Fazio, Craig Haywood, Matt McGovern, George Montras, Matt Nicodemus, Dan O'Rourke, Nick Renninger, Anthony Rodriguez, and Joe Tassoni. Women's soccer players named include Annie Drimones, Ashley Martin, Liz Martin, Kerri Rall, Heather Rottmund, Gina Rozaieski, Cindy Smallwood, Elizabeth Swank, Christine Uhl, Kaitlin Wilcox. Women's tennis players chose were Alexandra DeGraff, Sarah Guza, Kristen Hunter, Malena Kinsman, Mary Clare Kubasko, Amanda Marchica, Stacey Matulewicz, Courtney Radzville, Kristen Sebastian, and Elizabeth Walpole.

Seven members of the King's cross country team were named to the team, including Ed Kopec, David Krupski, Justin Winters, Shauna Crabb, Maria DeMuro, Jessica Schillawski, and Alison Taroli. Five Lady Monarch volleyball players rounded out the selections, including Katie Carr, Melissa Decusky, Jessica Kandefer, Diane Lucas, Michelle Oros.

"We are very proud of the commitment our student athletes make to excellence both on their teams and in the classroom". King's Director of intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation stated. "Our student athletes demonstrate daily that they recognize the value of hard work and dedication and have proven themselves to be leaders. We are extremely pleased to have so many of our student athletes recognized and believe they are great example of the high caliber academic reputation that King's College enjoys."
