KING'S SABO NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE DISTRICT
2 ACADEMIC TEAM
WILKES-BARRE
-- King's College athletic standout Lindsay Sabo (Milford/Delaware
Valley) has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine District 2
At-Large All-Academic Team.
Sabo, who was a second-team choice in 2005, was
one of just 10 student-athletes named to the District 2 first-team squad
which consists of NCAA Division II and III colleges, as well as NAIA
schools from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, West
Virginia, and Washington D.C.
As a first-team selection, Sabo will placed on the
ballot for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team along with
the first-team choices from all eight districts throughout North
America.
Sabo recently concluded her junior year at King's
where she starred on the field hockey and women's lacrosse teams. She
already holds numerous single-game, single-season, and career offensive
records at King's in both sports with one year of eligibility remaining
in both sports.
As a member of King's field hockey team, Sabo was
named the 2005 Freedom Conference "Co-Player of the Year" after scoring
37 points on 13 goals and
11 assists. She ranked first in the Freedom
Conference in total points, second in assists, and fifth in goals
scored. Sabo was also named to the National Field Hockey Coaches
Association All-Regional Team.
In lacrosse, Sabo was named a first-team Middle
Atlantic Conference all-star after registering 84 points on 59 goals and
25 assists. She ranked second in the MAC in total points, second in
goals scored, and fifth in assists.
In the classroom, Sabo posts an outstanding 3.98
overall grade-point average as an elementary education major and is a
combined four-time MAC All-Academic selection in both field hockey and
lacrosse.
Sabo has been named to King's Deans List each of
her six semesters and was selected to the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor
Society, the Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society, and King's
Aquinas Honor Society.
She served as the junior class Student Government
Secretary and is a member of King's Math and Education clubs. Sabo is
also a CRLA Level 2 Tutor in Calculus and Psychology and has served as a
volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Relay for Life, and the CEO Food
Drive.
"Lindsay has been the prototype student-athlete
since her first day at King's and we are thrilled to see her receive
such an outstanding honor," said King's sports information director Bob
Ziadie, who nominated Sabo for the award. "Her academic career has been
tremendous and the statistics, records, and honors she continues to
accumulate in field hockey and lacrosse are incredible. But Lindsay is
also a great person who is extremely well-liked on campus so it is
special to see her recognized for her hard work and dedication.
Hopefully the ESPN The Magazine national selection committee will see
what we see everyday, and that is that Lindsay is a rare combination of
athletic ability and academic excellence."
