KING'S PLACES 24 ON MAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
WILKES-BARRE -- A total of 24 King's College
student-athletes have been named to the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conferences
All-Academic Team.
In order to be nominated, student-athletes must
maintain a minimum 3.20 overall grade-point average and be at least a
sophomore in class standing.
With 60 members of the college's fall and winter
sports team previously selected, a total of 84 King's student-athletes
were named to MAC all-Academic teams during the 2003-04 campaign.
Five players from King's Freedom Conference
championship softball team were chosen, including senior first baseman
Maria Zangardi (Pittston Twp./Seton Catholic), junior catcher Kristin
Brady (Mayfield/Bishop O'Hara), sophomore outfielder Elizabeth Stella
(Exeter/Wyoming Area), senior outfielder Linda Manarchuck (Eynon/Valley
View), and junior pitcher Megan Adams (Nanticoke/Nanticoke).
The Monarch baseball team also had five players
selected, including senior pitcher Chris Persak (Mechanicsburg/Trinity),
sophomore pitcher Tim Granquist (Honesdale/Honesdale), sophomore infielder
Bob Super (Dickson City/Mid Valley), sophomore pitcher Rob Medlock
(Philadelphia/Roman Catholic), and sophomore infielder Gary Mazur (Dickson
City/Mid Valley).
The King's women's lacrosse team had five players
named to the team, including junior defender Kim Triftshouser (Xenia,
OH/Carroll), junior attack Kristen Green (Strousburg/Pocono Mountain),
junior goalie Mary Beth Clark (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic), sophomore
attack Patrice Cote (Somerville, NJ/Immaculata), and sophomore midfielder
Pam Wright (Ludlow, Ma./Ludlow).
The men's lacrosse team had four players chosen,
including junior midfielder John Matusiewicz (Bridgewater,
NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), senior defender Brian Zorn (Kingsville, MD/Perry
Hall), sophomore midfielder Bill Noss (Wilkes-Barre/GAR), and sophomore
defender Gary Mason (Garfield, NJ/Paramus Catholic).
The Monarch men's tennis team was represented by
senior Eric Calabrese (Stirling, NJ/Oratory Prep) and senior Jason Sallemi
(Hazleton/Bishop Hafey).
Three King's golfers were selected, including junior
Mark Sciabacucchi (Pittston Twp./Seton Catholic), sophomore J.C. Blewitt
(Kingston/Bishop O'Reilly), and junior Steve Pinnacoli (Hudson/Coughlin).
