KING'S PLACES 55 ON MAC FALL SPORTS ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS

WILKES-BARRE -- A total of 55 King's College student-athletes have been named to the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conferences Fall Sports All-Academic Team, the MAC Office announced Tuesday.

To be nominated for selection, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.20 overall grade-point average and be at least a sophomore in class standing. Freshmen are not eligible for selection.

King's total of 55 selections ranked third among the 13 MAC colleges. Widener led the way with 59 while Messiah was second with 58. Elizabethtown was fourth behind King's with 53 student-athletes chosen.

King's football team had 14 players selected, including Ryan Arcangeli, John Cataldo, Bob Cirko, Eric Fay, Matt Ihlein, Corey Lavin, Andrew Michalik, Brian Mitros, Doug Mucha, Dan O’Rourke, Ross Schwenk, Jeff Searfass, Will Solimine, Christian Specht, and Nick Strom.

The women's soccer team followed with nine players chosen, including Rachael Donatiello, Annie Drimones, Mary Malloy, Lisa McMillan, Brittany Morgan, Kelly Puffenberger, Catherine Scerra, Erin Tanner, and Kaitlin Wilcox.

King's Freedom Conference championship field hockey team had eight players selected, including Melissa Gates, Grace King, Kari Leach, Katie McCormick, Sarah McGrady, Lindsay O’Brien, Michelle Ray, and Debbie Wychock.

Seven players on King's Freedom Conference playoff women's tennis team were also selected, including Sarah Guza, Kristen Hunter, Amanda Marchica, Christy Rossowski, Brittany Turnbaugh, Liz Walpole, and Courtnay Wilson.

Six members of King's Freedom Conference playoff women's volleyball team were named to the team, including Nadya Alboschy, Danielle Belfanti, Katie Doss, Shannon Ellis, Kaitlyn Malshefski, and Samantha Page.

Five members of King's Freedom Conference Tournament runner-up men's soccer squad were chosen, including Mike Buckwash, Alex Henery, Pat McCarthy, John McNichol, and Brandon Placke. Five runners on King's cross country team round out the al-academic selections, including Julie Dural, Kelley Weidwald, Derek Call, Ed Kopec, and Justin Winters.
