WYCHOCK, AUDETTE NAMED MAC FREEDOM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
WILKES-BARRE – King’s College athletic standouts Debbie Wychock and
Cameron Audette were again honored by the Middle Atlantic Conference
Office on Monday.
Wychock was named the Freedom Conference Field Hockey Player of the
Week, while Audette was selected as the Freedom Conference Men’s Soccer
Player of the Week”. It was the second time in three weeks Wychock
received the honor while Audette was selected for the third straight
week.
Wychock was overpowering as she led King’s to a 3-0 week, including the
championship of the Betty Richey Invitational Tournament at Vassar
College. She started the week out by scoring two goals in a 4-1 victory
over Marywood University. She followed up with four goals in just under
40 minutes of play in a 14-0 rout of Elms College in the opening round
of the Betty Richey Tournament. In the championship game, she led the
lady Monarchs to a 6-3 win over host Vassar by scoring four more goals
while adding an assist to claim most valuable player honors.
In the process, she moved into second place all-time in King’s history
with 59 goals, trailing the mark of 61 set by Lindsay Sabo from
2002-06. This season, Wychock has accounted for an astounding 38 points
on 18 goals and two assists in just six games, averaging 6.3 points
per-game.
Audette, the reigning Freedom Conference “Player of the Year”, enjoyed
another fine week as he led King’s to a 2-0 mark by posting seven points
in two games. In a 4-2 victory over Marywood, his first goal gave the
Monarchs a 2-1 lead. His final goal would give the Monarchs an insurance
goal and a 4-2 lead with 13 minutes left in the contest. Against Gwynedd-Mercy,
Audette led the Monarchs to their first win over the Griffins in the
past three years. He tallied the first goal of the game when he beat a
defender one-one one before driving shot past the Griffin goalie. He
then added as assist in the second half to give King’s a 4-0 lead.
Thus far this season, Audette has scored 28 points on 12 goals and four
assists in six contests.
