KING'S COUSART, KENDRA NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE
DISTRICT 2 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
WILKES-BARRE -- Over the course of their careers,
King's College senior basketball standouts
Jamie Cousart (Holland/Holy Ghost Prep) and
Lauren Kendra (Bellmawr, NJ/Gloucester Catholic)
have been recognized for their accomplishments on the court. The duo
has now been honored for their work in the classroom as both Cousart and
Kendra have been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine District II
All-Academic Team in men's and women's basketball, as selected by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be nominated, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.20 overall
grade-point average and be at least a sophomore in class standing. Both
Cousart and Kendra were named to the second team, ranking them among the
top 10 male and female basketball playing student athletes in District
2, which comprises Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia,
Delaware, and Washington D.C.
Cousart
is a two-time second-team All-District II selection, having received the
honor a year ago. The Monarch senior point-guard owns a 3.41 cumulative
grade-point average as a business administration major. A Dean's List
student at King's, Cousart is a three-time MAC All-Academic selection
who has served as a peer tutor at King's.
On the court, he is a two-time first-team All-Freedom Conference
selection and a 2007 Mid-Atlantic All-Regional choice. Cousart, who has
helped lead King's to Freedom Conference championships in 2005 and 2007,
was named the most valuable player of the Freedom Conference Tournament
in 2007. Currently, he leads King's with 14.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and
4.0 assists. Over the course of his career, Cousart has compiled 1,236
points, 595 rebounds, and 418 assists.
Kendra,
meanwhile, was a first-time selection to the District II team. The Lady
Monarch senior point-guard has enjoyed an outstanding academic career at
King's, posting a 3.91 overall grade-point average and has earned Dean's
List honors every semester. A biology major with a minor in
neuroscience, Kendra completed a highly-regarded summer internship at
the University of Texas Medical Branch, performing research of the
regeneration of the human liver in the pharmacology and toxicology labs.
A member of King's Neuroscience Club, she is the vice president of Delta
Epsilon Sigma, while holding membership in Alpha Epsilon Delta and the
Aquinas Honor Society. On the court, Kendra currently averages 6.0
points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 2.5 steals per-game. In her
career, Kendra has tallied 518 points, 623 rebounds, and 265 steals. Her
460 assists stands as King's school career record.
