KING'S WRESTLERS OPEN SEASON FOURTH AT MESSIAH TOURNEY

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College wrestling team opened the 2006-07 season with a fourth-place finish at the seven-team Messiah College Invitational Tournament Saturday in Grantham.

King's crowned two individual champions at the event. Junior all-American Dave Morgan won the 133-pound weight class while sophomore Zach Wilkerson captured the 184-pound class. Morgan went 3-0 at the event, including a pin in 1:40 of Steve Valestro Southern Maine in the finals. Wilkerson went 2-0 after a first-round bye and posted a fall in 1:24 over Rob Schoner of Southern Maine.

Monarch heavyweight Jim Bishop was second in the tournament, going 3-1 with two pins, but fell to Bob Gavlak of Case Western reserve 4-1 in the finals.

King's freshman Taylor Green was third at 165, going 2-2 in the event and winning by decisions of 9-1 and 7-2.

Case Western won the team title with 95.5 points, followed by Messiah with 81.5 points. Southern Maine was third with 67 points while the Monarchs were sixth with 66 points.

King's will return to action Saturday with the annual Monarch Invitational Tournament in Scandlon Gym. Wrestling begins at 11:00 a.m.
