KINGıS GRAPPLER DROP SEASON FINALE TO MESSIAH, 31-22

WILKES-BARRE ­ Visiting Messiah College won six of 10 matches to post a 31-22 victory over Kingıs College Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

It was the final dual meet of the season for Kingıs heading into next weekendıs Middle Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday at Elizabethtown College.

Justin Bender got the Monarchs off to a quick start when he pinned Ethan Bucarey in 3:26 in the opening match at 285-pounds. Monarch freshman Jeff Mazurek then followed with a fall in 1:29 over Mark Eilertson to give Kingıs a 12-0 lead.

With Monarch standout Dave Morgan sidelined with a minor injury, Kingıs was forced to forfeit 133 pounds as Messiah closed to within 12-6.

At 141, Barry Thrush posted a 12-11 win over Kingıs Ryan Richard to cut the team score to 12-9.

In the 149-pound bout Messiahıs Kevin Gin pinned Ryan Trees in 4:20 to give the Falcons a 15-12 lead. The Monarchs recaptured the lead when Drew Dehaut used three first period takedowns before pinning Trey Speers in 1:13 to give Kingıs an 18-15 advantage.

At 165, Messiahıs Derek Ricker picked up an injury default win over Bobby Williard to give the Falcons a 21-18 lead. The Messiah lead would grow to
24-18 at 174-pounds when Anthony Dill posted an 11-0 major decision over Zach Dietrick.

Matt McHugh would then clinch the match for the Falcons with a fall in 6:40 over Zach Wilkerson at 184-pounds.

In the final match at 197, Kingıs Jason Reilly built a 5-0 first period lead on the strength of a takedown and three near fall points. Reilly extended the lead to 11-0 with a second period escape, takedown and three more back points. A riding time point would give the Reilly (24-1) a 12-0 major decision, cutting the final team score to 31-22.
