REILLY PINS ALL-AMERICAN LOESCH AS KING'S GRAPPLERS DOWN MUHLENBERG

WILKES-BARRE – Jason Reilly posted his most impressive victory of the season with a first period pin of returning all-American Matt Loesch as the King's College wrestling team defeated visiting Muhlenberg College 28-14 Thursday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, King's improved to 3-7 on the year while Muhlenberg slipped to 4-2.

The match between Reilly and Loesch at 197-pounds was easily the most highly-anticipated of the night. Reilly came into the match with a 17-1 record while Loesch, who placed fourth in the 2005 NCAA Division III national tournament, entered the bout ranked sixth nationally in Division III.

Reilly would score an early takedown, then used a cradle to register a sudden pin in 1:41. Reilly's victory also clinched the match for the Monarchs as King’s took a 25-14 lead heading into the final match.

In the first match at 125-pounds King’s Jeff Mazurek opened a 4-0 lead over Michael Tenenhause with a first period takedown and near fall points. Mazurek would then turn Tenenhause to his back for a pin at 2:56.

At 133, King’s Dave Morgan used four takedowns to take an 8-3 first period lead over Billy Hall. Morgan added a second period reversal and takedown to extend the lead to 12-3 heading into the third period. Morgan added a third period takedown and riding time points to secure a 15-5 major decision to give King’s a 10-0 lead. With the win Morgan improved to 16-2 on the year while Hall slipped to 18-6.

At 141, Muhlenberg’s Rob Kein used two takedowns to build a 4-2 first period advantage over Ryan Richard. A second period escape would bring Richard to within 4-3 heading into the final period. Kein (11-7) would post an escape and two more takedowns and a riding time points to register a 10-5 decision.

At 149, King’s Ryan Trees scored an early takedown of Joe DeCampo who would counter with an escape and takedown of his own to forge a 3-2 lead. After an escape by Trees knotted the score at 3-3, DeCampo answered with a takedown to secure a 5-3 lead heading into the second period. DeCampo would add six near fall points to stretch the lead to 11-3. DeCampo (15-7) tacked on a third period takedown and two sets of back points to earn a 21-4 technical fall and cut the King’s lead to 10-8.

At 157, Muhlenberg’s Dale Mills scored an early takedown on Bobby Williard to lead 2-1 at the end of one period. Williard used a second period escape to tie the score at 2-2. Mills answered with a third period escape for a 3-2 lead before Williard was penalized a point for stalling to secure a 4-2 while giving the Mules an 11-10 lead.

King’s recaptured the lead when Drew Dehaut (11-4) made quick work of Chris Gibson at 165-pounds with a fall in just 0:57 to give the Monarchs a 16-11 advantage.

At 174, King’s Zach Dietrick scored an early takedown of John Heese to lead 2-1 after one period. Heese would counter with an escape and takedown to build a 3-2 advantage before Dietrick scored a reverse of his own to take a 4-3 lead heading into the final period. After Heese escaped to tie the score at 4-4, Dietrick would register a takedown to secure a 6-4 decision and increase the Monarch lead to 19-11.

At 184, Muhlenberg’s Matt Horn registered a pair of takedowns to build a 4-2 first period lead over Zach Wilkerson. Horn added a reversal en route to a 7-3 decision as Muhlenberg closed to within 19-14.

In the final match at 285, King’s Jim Bishop broke a 1-1 tie with Chris Swenson by posting an early third period escape to walk away with a 2-1 decision.
