WILLIAMSPORT -- The following
are first-day results of King's at the Bud Whitehill Division III Duals at
Lycoming College Williamsport.
In their opening match,
10th-seeded King's, ranked 25th nationally in Division III, upset 18th
ranked Baldwin Wallace, the seventh seed, by a 24-21 count. King's led
24-15 heading into the final bout where Monarch heavyweight Tegan McKee
lost by injury default to Greg Hartlaub at 4:19.
Dave Shafer and Jim Lewis posted pins to lead the
Monarch attack. Jim Morgan earned a 18-2 technical fall while Mitch Marcks
gained a 13-5 major decision. King's clinched the match when Matt Gingo
posted a 4-3 upset win over Devin Carman at 197.
The Monarchs then fell to second-seeded College of
New Jersey, the ninth-ranked team in the nation. Mitch Marks and Jim
Morgan picked up the lone wins for King's while Dave Shafer (18-1)
suffered his first loss of the year by a 4-1 decision to Greg Ilaria in a
battle of nationally-ranked grapplers. Shafer, who was ranked third at 157
pounds while Ilaria was ranked eighth.
