MONARCH GRAPPLERS WIN FIRST TWO MATCHES AT NATIONAL DUALS, WILL MEET TWO-TIME NATIONAL CHAMPION AUGSBURG IN SEMI-FINALS

COLUMBUS, OH --  The fourth-ranked King's College wrestling team advanced to the semi-finals of the Cliff Keen National Wrestling Association Division III National Duals Saturday at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.

In the first round, King's defeated 18th ranked Ohio Northern University  21-17 before handing Springfield College a 19016 setback in the quarterfinals.

With the win, King's (15-0) advances to the semi-finals of the 16-team event where the Monarchs face the unenviable task of facing top-ranked, two-time defending NCAA Division III National Champion Augsburg College of Minnesota. Against Ohio Northern, King's was paced by Dave Shafer who earned a pin at 157-pounds. Tim Martinez (141), Jim Morgan (149) , and Joe Arnone (174) all picked up decisions for the Monarchs while unbeaten Mitch Marcks gained a forfeit at 125.

In the win over Springfield, Mike Griffith came up with a pin at 133 while Morgan, Shafer, Jesse Martinez, and Jason Schlingman each earned decisions. Shafer improved to 20-1 with the win.

Marcks, ranked eighth individually in Division III, suffered his first loss of the season with a 3-2 decision to Calvin Johnson, the third-ranked wrestler in the nation. Marcks stands at 22-1 on the year.
