MONARCH GRAPPLERS GO 2-0 AFTER FIRST DAY AT BUD WHITEHILL DIVISION III
DUALS
WILLIAMSPORT -- The 10th ranked King's College wrestling team
improved to 11-0 on the season as the Monarchs won their first two matches
at the 14th annual Bud Whitehill Division III Duals at Lycoming College,
Williamsport.
In their first match, the Monarchs bested Augustana College of Iowa 32-12.
In their second match, the Monarchs ninth-ranked John
Carroll University of Ohio 22-12. John Carroll is ranked ninth
nationally in Division III.
Against Augustana, King's received pins from Mike Griffith (133), Jesse
Martinez (165), and Joe Arnone (174), while Mitch Marcks and Jason
Schlingman (184) each picked up a major decision.
In their win over John Carroll, Dave Shafer picked up a major decision
victory at 157 while improving to 17-0. Marcks added a decision to up his
record to 19-0. Schlingman improved to 21-1 with a 15-8 decision, while
Arnone is now 17-2 after going a 2-1 win. Martinez also upped his
mark to 15-3 after earning a 10-8 decision.
The Monarchs advance to the semi-finals of the 20-team event where they
will meet top-seeded College of New Jersey, the fourth-ranked team
nationally in Division III, at 10:30 a.m.
