KING'S WRESTLERS WIN MONARCH INVITATIOAL
   
WILKES-BARRE --  King's College crowned four individual champions and two second-place finishers to capture first-place at the Monarch Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.  King's, ranked 12th nationally in Division III,  won the team title with 162.5 points while Oneonta State was second with 109.5.  In all, the Monarchs placed nine wrestlers in the top four of each weight class.
   
King's was led by Dave Shafer of Hazleton Area who dominated the 157-pound weight class by posting pins in all four matches, including a pin in 0:28 in the championship match over Sean Howard of Ursinus.  Meyers' product Jason Schlingman was crowned champion at 184 pounds by winning all three matches, including a 8-4 victory n the finals over Mike Collins of the University of Delaware.
   
At 174-pounds, King's freshman Joe Arnone of Honesdale captured first place by winning all three matches. Arnone posted  two first-period pins before gaining a 9-8 victory over Matt Smith of Washington and Jefferson in the finals. Fellow rookie Tegan McKee of Panther Valley also claimed tournament gold by winning the 197-pound weight class. McKee posted a 14-6 major decision over Washington and Jefferson's Tony Boone in ht championship match.
   
King's also had two second-place finishers in West Scranton's Jim Morgan and Jesse Martinez of Hanover Area. Morgan went 3-1 with one pin in the tournament but dropped a 6-5 verdict to Dustin Winn of Oneonta State in the finals. Martinez went 3-1 on the day with two pins, before falling 8-0 to Aaron Gibbs of Washington and Jefferson.  
   
Other Monarch place-winners include sophomore Mitch Marcks who was third at 125, including a 3-1 victory over Brent Ellis of Tompkins-Cortland in the consolation finals. Freshman Tim Martinez of Hanover Area was fourth at 141-pounds, falling 10-2 to Ben Witmer of Stevens in the consolations finals.  Sophomore Glen Zimmerman was third at 197, posting a 5-3 victory over Chris Malone of York in the consolation finals.
