KING'S WRESTLERS 12TH AT PETROFES INVITATIONAL

GRANTHAM -- Tony Miele placed fourth in the 141-pound weight class to lead the King's College wrestling team to a 12th place finish in the 13-team Petrofes Invitational Tournament at Messiah College, Grantham.

Miele, seeded fourth at 141, received a first-round bye, then posted a 5-4 decision over Joe Moran of Cortland State. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Jim Squires of Springfield 2-1. In the semi-finals he dropped a 9-4 verdict to top-seeded Billy Hall of Muhlenberg. In the consolations, Miele came back to defeat Oscar Orellano 7-2 before falling 11-5 to Nyame Cooper-White 11-5 in the consolation finals.

Bob Barrese placed sixth at 174-pounds for the Monarchs. The fourth-seeded Baresse downed Tom Delesia of Cortland 4-3 in his first match, then bested fifth-seeded David Jones of Messiah 5-4. He would then fall to top-seeded eventual champion Eric Van Patten of Brockport in the semi-finals. In the consolation bracket, he would medical forfeit his next two matches to settle for sixth place.

The Monarchs, who are battling a number of injuries, only entered eight wrestlers in the event and did not have any entrants at 133, 165, and 184-pounds. King's returning Division III national champion David Morgan also did not compete for the Monarchs.
