KING'S TENNIS FALLS TO DREW 6-2 IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TITLE MATCHUP

MADISON, NJ -- The King's College men's tennis team came up short of an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament as the Monarchs dropped a 6-2 decision to top-seeded Drew University Sunday in Madison, NJ.

With the loss, second-seeded King's fell to 13-6 while Drew improved to 11-5 with its seventh straight Freedom Conference championship.

Drew took a 2-1 lead after doubles, then won four of the six singles matches to secure the victory.

Mike Portonova improved to 18-1 on the year with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Anthony Tunnero at number-one singles. Portonova and Nick Hojsack would register King's other point of the match with an 8-5 doubles victory over Vikram Rao and Jon Pivor.

Nick Hojsack led Ross Lieblich 6-3, 5-2 in singles when the match was suspended when Drew clinched the overall title with a singles victory in another match.

King's will continue its season Tuesday when the Monarchs travel to Annville to face Lebanon Valley College.
