KING'S TENNIS ADVANCES TO FREEDOM CONFERENCE FINAL WITH 5-3 SEMI-FINAL WIN OVER FDU

MADISON, NJ -- The King's College men's tennis team advanced to the championship match of the Freedom Conference Tournament as the Monarchs posted a 5-3 victory over FDU-Florham Saturday at Drew University,  Madison, NJ.

With the win, the second-seeded Monarchs improved to 13-5 on the year  while third-seeded FDU-Florham fell to 7-8.

The Monarchs move on the Freedom Conference final when King's will play top-seeded host Drew University for the championship Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Drew reached the title match with a 7-1 win over fourth-seeded Wilkes.

King's started the match off by winning two of three doubles contests to take a 2-1 lead into singles.  Mike Portonova, Nick Hojsack, and David Kaluzavich all picked up victories for King's to clinch the match.  The big win for the Monarchs came at number-two singles when Hojsack avenged a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Alex Bruin back on March 31 to register a critical 6-1, 6-1 victory.   King's David Boe led John Zalesky 6-1, 5-5 at number-four singles, but when the match was clinched, play was halted.

Portonova and Hojsack teamed to pick up a win in doubles while Kaluzavich and Matt Dunne picked up King's other doubles victory.
