KING'S MEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO SI-EDWARDSVILLE
KISSIMMEE, FLA -- The King's College men's tennis
team dropped its final match of the annual Florida tour as the Monarchs
fell to NCAA Division I provisional member Southern
Illinois-Edwardsville 7-2 Friday in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Monarchs wrapped up play with a 3-3 record with all three losses
coming to upper-division scholarship programs. King's went 3-0 against
NCAA Division III opponents.
SI-Edwardsville, a current NCAA Division II member that will be moving
to Division I, won five of the six singles matches and two-of-three
doubles contests to secure the win.
Monarch junior Mike Portonova won his singles match with a 6-4, 6-4
verdict over Doug Kim to improve to 5-1, while teaming with Nick Hojsack
to earn a 9-8 victory over Zach Allison and Thibaud Chavalier at
number-one doubles.
