APRIL 5, 2006 KING'S TENNIS DOWNS SCRANTON, 6-1 SCRANTON, Pa.—King’s College emerged victorious in eight of nine matches to record a 6-1 victory over The University of Scranton in Freedom Conference action Wednesday afternoon at the Poly Hi Tennis Courts. Sophomores Michael Portonova (Hazleton, Pa./Bishop Hafey), Nick Hojsack (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West, and David Boe (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic), along with senior Brett Shipe (Milton, Pa./Milton) and freshman Blake Bonser (Tannersville, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), were double-winners for the Monarchs, now 6-7 overall and 2-1 in league play.  Scranton’s lone point was scored by senior Paurush Shah (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Preparatory), who improved to 2-3 in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Matt Dunne (Summit, NJ/Oratory Prep) at number three. Portanova improved his team-leading record to 12-1 on the season and 36-1 in his career by downing Dan Kiers, 6-0, 6-0, at the number one singles.  He also moved to 8-4 on the season in doubles by teaming with Hojsack to score an 8-2 victory over Kiers and Matt Silva.  Hojsack and Bonser each improved to 7-6 in singles with wins over Silva, 6-0, 6-0, and Rob Niosi, 6-1, 6-0, at the number two and five spots in the lineup, respectively. The Royals, now 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Freedom Conference, will return to action this Saturday, April 8, against the Warriors of Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The results of the King’s-Scranton match are as follows: King's 6 - Scranton 1 Doubles 1.
