KING'S MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE
FINAL TO DESALES, 2-0
CENTER VALLEY -- Host and top-seeded DeSales
University scored a goal just 0:20 into the match and added another
score late in the game as the Bulldogs defeated King's College 2-0 for
the Freedom Conference championship Saturday in Center Valley.
With the win, DeSales improved to 10-9-2 and won its third
straight conference crown while receiving an automatic berth into the
NCAA Division III National Tournament. King's, meanwhile, ended its
campaign with an 8-9-3 mark and reached the conference final for the
first time since 2001 after overcoming a 0-4 start.
DeSales struck quickly when German Reyes lofted a pass over the Monarch
defense that was flicked into the net by Dennis Sturm to give the
Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The score would remain tied until 6:34
remained when Reyes knocked in a rebounded ball into the King's net.
The Bulldogs outshot King's 12-8 while each team had two corner kicks.
Monarch goalie John McNichol made one save on the day while Bulldog
counterpart Rusty Riedmiller had two stops.
