DESALES DEFEATS KING'S 1-0 ON GOAL WITH 0:34 LEFT
WILKES-BARRE -- Dan Jones scored the only goal of the game with just
0:34 remaining as visiting DeSales University posted a 1-0 victory over
King's College in Freedom Conference men's soccer action Thursday at
Betzler Fields.
With the win, DeSales improved to 8-9-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the Freedom
Conference. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 7-8-2 and 3-2 in league play.
With the game seemingly headed for overtime, a King's defender would
lose possession in the Monarchs' end of the field. DeSales' German Reyes
would corral the turnover and delivered a crossing pass to Jones who
placed the ball just inside the left post and past the outstretched arms
King's goalie John McNichol with 0:34 left.
King's missed out on two golden opportunities in the second half.
Cameron Audette would see his chance bounce off the left post, while
Mark Timko's point-blank shot off a corner kick from 20 feet front of an
open net sailed over the crossbar.
DeSales would register an 11-6 advantage in shots while the Monarchs
held a 6-4 lead in corners. McNichol made three saves while
DeSales keeper Rusty Reidmiller also made three stops.
King's close out the regular-season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at
FDU-Florham.
