KING'S MEN'S SOCCER TEAM DOWNS MANHATTANVILLE
WILKES-BARRE -- Cameron Audette scored two goals, including the
game-winner in the second half, as the King's College men's soccer team
posted a 2-1 victory over Manhattanville College Wednesday at Betzler
Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 5-6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Freedom
Conference. Manhattanville slipped to 3-8-1 and 0-1 in league play.
King's took a 1-0 lead just 6:54 into the game when Audette converted a
crossing pass from Dan Mortenson. Manhattanville tied the score with
3:32 left in the half when Shaune Allan struck net off a through pass by
Michael Bouve to knot the score at 1-1 at the break.
Early in the second half, Audette was tackled in the box and was awarded
a penalty kick. The Monarch junior calmly drilled a shot into the left
side of the net for what proved to be the wining goal.
Manhattanville outshot King's 18-11, but managed few quality chances.
The Valiants also held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Monarch goalie John
McNichol made five saves while Valiant keeper Jerry Tellier posted six
stops.
King's returns to action Saturday when the Monarchs travel to face Penn
State Harrisburg in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
