KING'S MEN'S SOCCER LOSES TO GWYNEDD MERCY, 4-3 IN
OT
WILKES-BARRE -- Despite a hat trick from junior
forward Cameron Audette, the King's College men's soccer team dropped a
4-3 overtime decision to visiting Gwynedd Mercy College on Saturday
afternoon at Betzler Fields.
With the loss, King's slips to 0-2 overall.
King's held a 2-1 lead heading into the half
thanks in part to two of the three goals by Audette coming at the 38:00
and 8:45 marks of the first period. Early in the second half, Audette
would push across his third goal to give the Monarchs a 3-1 lead at
40:40. But Gwynedd Mercy answered back with a goal from freshmen Joe
Chilutti and freshmen Matthew Meier knotting the score at 3-3. Senior
Dennis Helverson would then net the game winning goal at the 5:15 mark
in overtime.
King's outshot Gwynedd Mercy 9-8, while holding a
4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalie John McNichol had four
saves in net for the Monarchs.
King's will return to action Wednesday when the
Monarchs travel to Misericordia University for a game at 7:00 p.m.
