KING'S MEN'S SOCCER TEAM ENDS SEASON WITH 1-0 WIN OVER FDU
WILKES-BARRE -- Senior Jordan Miller broke up a scoreless game by
converting a penalty kick with just 11:33 left in the contest as the
King's College men's soccer team closed out the 2006 campaign with a 1-0
victory over visiting FDU-Florham Sunday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, the Monarchs finished the season with a 6-13 overall
record while standing 2-5 in Freedom Conference play. FDU
concluded its season at 5-11-1 and 1-5-1.
After 78 minutes of scoreless play, King's Cameron Audette was tackled
just inside the box and the Monarchs were awarded a penalty kick on the
foul. Miller would drill his shot into the upper right-hand
portion of the net to give King's a 1-0 lead.
FDU nearly tied the score three minutes later but a point-blank shot by
Alex Malcolm was stopped by Monarch goalie John McNichol to preserve the
lead. McNichol was outstanding for King's with six saves, three
coming on diving stops to keep the Devils off the board.
FDU outshot King's 9-4 and held a 1-0 advantage in penalty corners.
King's was also able to send its senior players Eric Schmieder, Brandon
Heller, Mark Nessle, Jim McMichael, Brandon Stanchock, Andrew Petrick,
and Miller out with a victory in their final collegiate games.
