AUDETTE'S THREE GOALS POWERS MONARCH SOCCER TEAM
WILKES-BARRE -- Cameron Audette scored three straight goals to help the
King's College men's soccer team overcome a 1-0 deficit as the Monarchs
posted a 4-2 victory over visiting Baptist Bible College Friday at
Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 5-9-1 on the season.
Baptist Bible pushed across the first goal of the game at 35:00 of the
first half when Derek Jacobs scored off an assist from Justin Kemmerer.
King's tied the score with 5:45 left in the half when Audette headed in
a cross from Mark Timko. The Monarchs would forge a 2-1 halftime
lead when Timko scored off another header with just 0:45 remaining in
the opening stanza off another cross by Mark Wallis.
King's would extend the lead to 3-0 when Audette scored his third
straight goal off a short pass in the box from Mike Conroy at 33:35 of
the second half.
Baptist Bible would close to within 3-2 when Joe Luethy drilled in a
rocket from 40 yards out in the upper left hand corner of the net with
14:57 left in the contest.
The Monarchs, however, quickly responded when Kyle Custer scored off a
cross by Kyle Custer to give King's a 402 lead with 13:05 remaining in
the game.
Baptist Bible outshot King's 16-to-13 while the Monarchs held a 3-to-1
advantage in corner kicks.
King's goalies Dan Upton and John McNichol combined for eight saves
while BBC keepers Dan Durrwacheter and Thomas Krick combined to stop six
shots.
King's will next host DeSales Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
