KING'S MEN'S SOCCER WINS HOME DEBUT WITH 7-1 TRIUMPH OVER KEYSTONE
WILKES-BARRE -- After playing its first five games of the year on the
road, the King's College men's soccer team made its home debut a
successful one with a 7-1 victory over visiting Keystone College
Wednesday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 2-4 while Keystone slipped to 1-5.
King's opened the scoring at 23:15 of the first half when Jordan Miller
scored off an assist from Kyle Custer. The Monarchs upped the lead to
2-0 when Miller scored again when he struck net on a breakaway after a
long punt from King's keeper Danny Roth. Ricky Branco gave King's a 3-0
lead when he scored off an assist from Miller with 11:20 remaining in
the opening half.
Keystone would get on the board early in the second half when Mamoudou
Camara scored unassisted just 3:15 into the final stanza. The Monarchs
responded when Brett Shipe scored back-to-back goals off assists from
Jim McMichael and Mark Wallis to extend the lead to 5-1 with 17:38 left
in the game. King's freshman Cameron Audette would score unassisted with
16:57 remaining before Miller scored his third goal off Wallis's second
assist of the day with 12:37 left.
King's held a 16-3 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Roth made one save in goal for King's while Keystone keeper Michael
Bator had nine stops.
King's will next travel to Widener University Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
