SHIPE'S HAT TRICK PROPELS KING'S TO OVERTIME WIN VS. WILLIAM PATERSON IN WELLESLEY CUP OPENER

WAYNE, NJ - Senior Brett Shipe scored all three goals, including the game winner in overtime as the visiting King's College men's soccer team posted a 3-2 overtime victory over host William Paterson College in the first round of the Wellesley Cup Saturday in Wayne, NJ.

With the win, King's improved to 1-1 on the year.

King's took a 1-0 lead when Shipe scored off an assist from Dan Gibbons at 26:30 of the first half. The Monarchs extended the advantage to 2-0 when Shipe struck net on the strength of an assist from Mark Wallis with 13:53 remaining in the first half.

In the second stanza, William Paterson answered when Ryan Hughes scored on an assist from Jay Hooper with 7:35 remaining. The Pioneers then sent the game into overtime when Carlos Moreira scored a dramatic unassisted goal with just 0:46 left in regulation.

The teams would play what appeared to be a scoreless first over time but Shipe ended the game suddenly when he scored the winning goal off a lead pass from Jordan Miller with just 0:37 left in the first overtime frame.

William Paterson outshot King's 16-9 while the Monarchs held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. King's goalie Danny Roth made five saves in net.

King's will play at Montclair State Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
