WILKES POSTS 1-0 OVERTIME WIN OVER KING'S
WILKES-BARRE -- Ryan Strange scored the game-winning goal in overtime as
the Wilkes University men's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over host
King's College Wednesday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, Wilkes improved to 6-7-2 in the Freedom Conference while
King's fell to 8-9-1 and 3-3.
After two scoreless halves, the game came a sudden end just 1:30 into
the first overtime when Strange's shot from short range was stopped by
Monarch goalie Dan Upton. The ball would carom back to Strange who
pushed the rebound past the fallen King's keeper to end the game.
King's held a 13-8 advantage in shots along with a 7-1 lead in corner
kicks.
The loss was especially damaging for King's post-season playoff damages
as the Monarchs must win at second-place DeSales on Saturday and get
help from other conference teams in order to qualify.
Wilkes is also in the same situation as it must defeat last-place
Delaware Valley and get help from fellow conference squads to qualify.
