KING'S BOOTERS FALL TO WIDENER, 2-1
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's soccer team had its
three-game win streak snapped as visiting Widener University posted a
2-1 victory Wednesday at Betzler Fields.
Widener dominated the first half action and took a 1-0 lead just 1:52
into the contest when Ryan Barnak scored off an assist from Ryan
Sullivan. Widener took a 2-0 lead with 23:45 left in the half when
a John Musser shot was stopped by King's goalie Dan Upton but the
rebound caromed to Barnak who would make good on the put-back.
The Monarchs controlled the tempo in the second half and outshot Widener
7-1. King's closed the gap to 2-1 when Mike McGarry scored on a
penalty kick with 34:55 remaining but the Monarchs were unable to take
advantage of the remainder of its scoring chances as the Pioneers held
on for the victory.
With the win, Widener improved to 6-4 overall while King's fell to 4-4
King's held a 10-9 advantage in shots while Widener had two corner kicks
compared to one for the Monarchs
King's will travel to Madison, NJ to face 2003 NCAA Division III
national runner-up Drew University Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
