SHIPE'S GAME-WINNER IN OVERTIME LEADS KING'S
SOCCER OVER FDU
WILKES-BARRE -- Junior Brett Shipe scored the
final two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead the
King's College men's soccer team to come-from-behind 3-2 victory over
FDU-Florham Sunday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 4-3 overall and
2-0 in the Freedom Conference. FDU slipped to 4-4 and 0-2.
Trailing 2-1 late in regulation, Shipe scored off a crossing pass from
Mike McGarry with just 5:43 remaining in regulation. In overtime, Shipe
stuck again when he took another cross from Brandon Heller and drilled
the ball into the FDU net to lift the Monarchs to victory.
Kings took a 1-0 lead when Mark Ferentz scored on a head shot off a
cross from McGarry with 31:09 remaining in the opening half. The Devils
came out strong in the second half and knotted the score just 3:23 into
the second stanza when Yaly Kloepper scored off an assist from James
Durkan. The Devils assumed a 2-1 lead when Durkin scored on a corner
kick with 37:41 remaining in the contest.
FDU held King's without a shot in the second half
until Shipe sent the game into overtime with his first tally.
King's outshot FDU 8-4 while holding a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Monarch goalie Dan Upton made two saves on the day while FDU keeper
Jaryd Drucker made three stops.
King's returns to action Wednesday when the Monarchs host Widener
University at 4:00 p.m.
