WILKES-BARRE - The King's College men's soccer
team played its most complete game of the season as the Monarchs posted
a 3-0 victory over the University of Scranton in a Freedom Conference
contest Thursday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 3-3 overall and
1-0 in Freedom Conference play. Scranton slipped to 1-5-2 and 0-1-1 in
league action.
King's opened the scoring with 10:00 remaining in the first half when
Dennis Maldonado scored off an assist from Brandon Placke. The Monarchs
took a 2-0 lead when Mike McGarry stole the ball from a Royal player
deep in Scranton territory and scored unassisted with 3:34 remaining in
the opening half.
The Monarchs would add the final goal of the game
with 33:04 left in the contest when Jordan Miller scored off a pass from
Mark Nessle.
King's defense was outstanding as Scranton failed to register a shot
on-goal during the entire contest. The Monarchs held a 10-0 advantage in
shots and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.
Monarch goalie Dan Upton played 85 minutes before
giving way to John McNichol to combine for the shutout. Scranton
utilized three goalies with Dave Keib making three saves.
King's returns to action Sunday when the Monarchs host FDU-Florham at
1:00 p.m. in a game which was rained out a week ago.
