KING'S MEN'S SOCCER TEAM ENDS YEAR WITH 3-1 WIN OVER DEL-VALLEY
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's soccer team concluded the 2002
campaign on a winning note as the Monarchs posted a 3-1 victory over
visiting Delaware Valley College Sunday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's ended its season with a 7-12 record while improving
to 2-5 in MAC freedom Conference action. Delaware Valley fell to
3-15 and 1-6.
The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead at 21:53 of the first half when Brandon
Heller scored off an assist from Joe Saukulyak. King's would
extend its lead to 2-0 with 20:48 left in the contest when Eric Hall
scored an unassisted goal. The Aggies would cut the lead to 2-1
with 6:07 left when Mike Mayne scored off a crossing pass from Michael
Taylor.
King's however, would ice the game when Brian Noler drilled in a low,
line-drive shot from 40 yards out as Aggie goalie Pat Fackler was
screened on the play and failed to see the attempt.
Each team took 11 shots while the Aggies had a 5-4 advantage in corner
kicks. King's goalie Trevor Riccobon made two saves in playing the
first half while Dan Upton posted four stops in playing the second
stanza. Fackler had three saves for the Aggies.
