KING'S SOCCER DOWNS PSU-HARRISBURG, 4-2
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's soccer team jumped out to a 3-1
half-time lead and held on for a 4-2 victory over visiting Penn State
Harrisburg Tuesday evening in a game that started at 8:00 p.m. due to
heavy rains at Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 10-1 while PSU-Harrisburg slipped to
5-4.
Alex Henery gave King's a 1-0 lead just 2:47 into the match off an
assist from Brian McElroy. The Lions tied the score at 14:08 when Verdan
Divkovic scored off a pass from David Little.
The Monarchs caught a break when a Lion defender knocked the ball into
his own net for an own-goal for the Monarchs, pushing the score to 2-1
at 19:06. King's would take a 3-1 halftime lead when Cameron
Audette beat a defender on a two-one-one break to strike net for the
Monarchs at 21:38.
In the second half Jeff Duke scored unassisted for the Lions at 67:20 to
cut the lead to 3-2. King's, however, would put the game away when Joe
Bender scored off a crossing pass from McElroy with 12:47 left in the
contest.
King's outshot the Lions 9-7 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Monarchs will next host Eastern University Saturday at 7:00 p.m. on
the turf at Betzler Fields.
