KING'S SOCCER DOWNS PSU-HARRISBURG, 4-2

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's soccer team jumped out to a 3-1 half-time lead and held on for a 4-2 victory over visiting Penn State Harrisburg Tuesday evening in a game that started at 8:00 p.m. due to heavy rains at Betzler Fields.

With the win, King's improved to 10-1 while PSU-Harrisburg slipped to 5-4.

Alex Henery gave King's a 1-0 lead just 2:47 into the match off an assist from Brian McElroy. The Lions tied the score at 14:08 when Verdan Divkovic scored off a pass from David Little.

The Monarchs caught a break when a Lion defender knocked the ball into his own net for an own-goal for the Monarchs, pushing the score to 2-1 at 19:06.  King's would take a 3-1 halftime lead when Cameron Audette beat a defender on a two-one-one break to strike net for the Monarchs at 21:38.

In the second half Jeff Duke scored unassisted for the Lions at 67:20 to cut the lead to 3-2. King's, however, would put the game away when Joe Bender scored off a crossing pass from McElroy with 12:47 left in the contest.

King's outshot the Lions 9-7 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Monarchs will next host Eastern University Saturday at 7:00 p.m. on the turf at Betzler Fields.
