KING'S GOES DOUBLE OT TO DEFEAT MORAVIAN
BETHLEHEM -- Senior forward Cameron Audette scored the game winning goal
with just 0:27 left in the second overtime period as the King's College
men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over host Moravian
College Wednesday in Bethlehem.
With the win, King's continues its best start in program history with a
9-0 mark while the Greyhounds fell to 3-5.
The game appeared to be headed for a 1-1 tie with under a minute left in
the match when Audette took off on a breakaway and struck net when he
drove in a shot pas the onrushing Greyhound keeper from 25 yards out to
put a sudden end to the contest.
The teams played to a scoreless first half tie but he Monarchs missed
out on a golden opportunity when Audette missed on a penalty shot,
retrieved the rebound and struck the ball over the cross bar on his
ensuing shot.
King's, however, would score first when Joe Bender scored unassisted at
70:08 following a failed Moravian clear.
The Greyhounds would the the score at 1-1 when Gary Grimes scored during
a scramble in front of the net with just 0:11 left in regulation,
setting up Audette's overtime heroics. The Monarch standout upped his
team-leading scoring total to 32 points on 14 goals and four assists.
King's goalie Tim Kelly made three saves on the day.
The Monarchs will travel to Doylestown to face Delaware Valley College
Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
