2008 King's Men's Lacrosse Preview....

The 2008 King’s College Men’s Lacrosse team fields one of the youngest teams in program history with a roster consisting of only one senior, five juniors, eleven sophomores and sixteen freshmen.

The attack is led by the lone senior Chris Landry. His experience will be relied upon heavily as he will be flanked by sophomores Curtis Reinard, John Doran and Brendan Novotny. All three have started games at attack in their short careers at King’s. Freshman Dan Carducci has shown great promise and will see time on the man up unit along with spot time as he steadily gets used to the college game.

Junior midfielders Ryan Lachner and T.J. Lyon will lead a very young unit at the midfield. Both players have started every game of their careers and the experience they have drawn will be needed with the youth surrounding them. Sophomores Rusty Booth and Alan Matusiewicz bring athleticism and an ability to contribute at both ends of the field. Three freshmen will round out the midfield. Kris Skewes, Keith Hoerburger and Evan Seward will see significant playing time this season.

The short stick defensive midfield position will be manned by a trio of freshmen. Matt Jester, Devin Gormley and Colin Bauer will rotate time at this all important position.

The long stick midfield position will rotate two freshmen. Joey Fuchs and Matt Wolfmayer have been impressive during the pre-season. The Monarchs have solid young depth at this position and the coaching staff expects this group to improve every game.

Defensively the Monarchs will lean on some experienced veterans to compliment another young unit. Junior team co-captain Phil Gakos started every game in his career and has the task of heading up the youngest unit on the team. Sophomores Matt O’Brien and Pete Grenot have started games in their career and will be a major factor in the success of the defense this year. Freshman Zach Druhm has earned a starting position because of his tenacious play as his intensity and work-ethic have impressed the coaching staff. Freshmen Rich Brower and Max Connolly have impressed and will compete for playing time on a daily basis.

The goaltender position finds the greatest experience and veteran leadership. After two years of splitting time junior Tim Cassi has earned the starting nod for the Monarchs in 2008. His athletic ability, near 60% save percentage and ability to guide a young defense makes his play a necessity for the Monarchs in 2008. Junior Andrew Bartle, a more than capable and distinguished keeper in his own right, will continue to push for the starting position. Two freshmen round out the position, Mike Benson and Chris Gazdick will work to prepare themselves to step in the pipes for a college game.
