MEN'S LAXERS FALL LATE TO SUSQUEHANNA

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's lacrosse team was unable to make a 4-3 fourth quarter lead stand up as visiting Susquehanna University score the final four goals to post a 7-4 victory Wednesday at Betzler Fields.

With the win, Susquehanna improved to 3-10 overall and 3-6 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. The Monarchs, meanwhile, slipped to 2-12 and 2-8 in the MAC.

King's took a 1-0 first quarter lead when Curtis Reinard scored just 1:25 into the game. Susquehanna tied the score at 1-1 when John Pillion struck net off a Greg Morris assist at 9:22 of the second quarter. The Crusaders used back-to-back goals by Greg Norris to take a 3-1 lead with 1:08 left in the half. King's would come up big when John Booth scored unassisted with just 0:36 on the clock as the Monarchs closed to within 3-2 at the break.

In the third quarter, King's tied the score at 3-3 when Brendan Novotny scored off a Reinard assist with 3:43 remaining. The Monarchs would take a 4-3 lead when John Doran struck net off a pass from Gary Morgan with 0:23 on the clock.

In the fourth quarter, however, Susquehanna would tie the game at 4-4 when Greg Burns scored just 1:28 into the final frame. The Crusaders would take a 5-4 lead with 11:31 remaining in the contest on Norris' second goal of the game. Susquehanna would go into a delay game to run down the clock, but added two late goals when Norris scored fourth goal of the game with 0:35 on the clock, followed by a Burns score just 0:06 later.

Susquehanna outshot King's 35=29 and held a 42-37 advantage in ground balls.

King's goalie Andrew Bartle made 10 saves while Crusader keeper A.J. Schaufler posted 12 stops.

The Monarchs will close out its season May 2 with a 4:00 p.m. home makeup game against Keuka College at Betzler Fields.
