KING'S LACROSSE EDGED OUT ION OPENER 10-9 AT MANHATTANVILLE
PURCHASE, NY -- The King's College men's lacrosse team opened up the
2007 season with a hard-fought 10-9 loss to Manhattanville College
Saturday in Purchase, NY.
Manhattanville took a 4-2 first period lead thanks two two goals by Luke
Dorfman. The Monarchs would battle back to knot the score at 4-4 on the
Chris Landry's second goal of the game and a pair of scores by freshman
Brendan Novotny. But the Valiants responded with two goals by Mike
Oswald and Dorfman to taka a 6-4 lead into the halftime break.
Oswald would score to start the third quarter, but King's answered with
three straight goals by Curtis Reinard, Landry, and Novotny to tie the
score at 7-7 with 6:37 left in the third quarter. Manhattanville
wowuld answer when Vin Mensenski scored to give the Valiants n 8-7
advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Gary Morgan would then tie the game up for King's with a goal just 0:46
into the final frame, but Manhattanville countered with a goal by
Scott Montaldo at 13:51 and another from Dorfman just 0:31 later to give
the Valiants a 10-8 lead.
King's would close to within 10-9 on a goal by T.J. Lyon with 4:04
remaining, but the Monarchs were unable to push across the tying goal.
King's outshot Manhattanville 41-38. Landry led the Monarchs with
three goals and two assists while Novotny followed with three goals and
one assist. Lyon and Morgan also chipped in with one assist apiece.
King's goalie Andrew Bartle was credited with 15 saves.
Dorfman led Manhattanville with four goals while Oswald and Menzenski
added two each.
